How To Select Your Cosmo Contact Wheel

Return To Home Page     View Our Catalog      Prototypes & Recovers     Order/Contact Us

Chicago Rubber Company manufactures a full line of rubber contact wheels to support your specific
grinding and finishing requirements.  Selection of the right wheel is fully as important as the choice of
abrasive belt.  The information on this page will help you to select the right wheel for your application.

Our grinding experts will be happy to assist you should you need any additional info.

Some guidelines to consider........

HARD WHEELS are used for faster cutting and produce a coarser finish.  For a given material, hard
wheels remove more stock than soft wheels.

SMALLER WHEEL DIAMETERS are used for faster cutting and a coarser finish.

SERRATED WHEELS permit faster cutting and result in longer belt life.  Glazing is retarded and belt
life can be extended when serrated wheels are used.

HIGHER SPEEDS produce better finishes, but caution must be exercised since excessive speeds tend
to harden a soft wheel through centrifugal force.

(Proper wheel hardness and machine speeds should be adhered to closely.)
